Sparking Innovation at CMU: GEE 16 - Unleashing Entrepreneurial Insights
Introduction:
According to Theodore Levitt, "Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things." In our contemporary world, innovators have become catalysts for change, shaping our global landscape for various reasons, whether personal or altruistic. Innovation has become intrinsic to our existence, propelling both individuals and civilizations forward. Thanks to innovative minds, we now inhabit a modern world infused with cutting-edge technology.
However, the journey of innovation demands unwavering commitment, strength, and enduring patience. It is a process that requires dedication and perseverance. Yet, as we embark on this transformative path, we invite you to witness and join our group. Our mission is to turn the seemingly impossible into reality. We aspire to enhance and make our beloved institution, Central Mindanao University (CMU), more accessible and advanced for everyone through innovative solutions.
In our current project, we were tasked with identifying a pain point within the market (our school) and devising an innovative solution leveraging modern technology. Join us in this pursuit, where creativity meets actionable innovation. Together, we aim not only to overcome challenges but also to contribute meaningfully to the continual improvement of CMU. Your participation in this collaborative journey is crucial as we strive to redefine the boundaries of what is achievable.
Interview Process:
Our interview process is structured into two distinct phases, each serving a specific purpose. The breakdown is as follows:
- Strategic Planning:
On January 30, 2024, our team had our first planning meeting. We discussed the initial steps for our plan and the order in which we should carry them out. We brainstormed potential issues at Central Mindanao University (CMU) and decided to interview 25 students from different colleges to gather insights. Our main question for them was, "What practical problems do you see at CMU, and what solutions do you suggest?" Each team member was assigned to interview 3-4 students.
Fortunately, our group had clear communication during this phase, making it easy to move on to the next steps of our plan.
2. Interview Phase:
Our journey into the interview process began on the specified date, and what initially seemed like a straightforward task of interviewing 25 students revealed some unexpected challenges. The majority of our team members, being more on the introverted side, led to initial setbacks in our approach. However, a few team members stepped up, overcoming their introversion, which marked a turning point, making the process smoother.
To ensure diversity, we employed a random sampling method, covering various colleges within CMU. This approach allowed us to successfully engage with 25 students from diverse academic backgrounds. While many responses touched on similar themes, a few students provided standout insights, bringing unique perspectives to the table.
Reflecting on this experience, it's clear that overcoming the initial hurdles and embracing the diversity within our team and the student population added richness to our interviews. The collaborative effort, combined with the willingness to step out of our comfort zones, made the endeavor both challenging and rewarding, underscoring the importance of adaptability in the face of unexpected obstacles.
Brainstorming:
The brainstorming process proved to be the most challenging aspect for our group. We delved into every detail of the problem to ensure we crafted a high-quality solution. Throughout this phase, we encountered some misunderstandings stemming from our differing views and ideas about the problem. However, despite these obstacles, we persevered and ultimately arrived at a very promising idea.
This period was also marked by considerable pressure and fatigue, compounded by the need to prepare for a major proposal. Despite these challenges, we addressed every necessary point of discussion with diligence and determination. Our group is committed to achieving the best possible outcome, having invested significant effort and dedication into our plans.
Journey and Learnings:
Embarking on this journey in our big school was like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Figuring out where we could make a difference felt as tough as climbing a mountain. At first, it was overwhelming because there were so many issues to deal with. But, thanks to my amazing groupmates, what seemed impossible turned into a fun team effort.
Working together made the load lighter, and we became a close-knit group. Our goal was not just to improve the school but also to strengthen the bonds within our team. Supporting each other created an environment where ideas flowed freely, and we learned to appreciate different points of view.
This experience showed us that there's a lot of room for improvement in our school if we take the time to tackle the challenges. Personally, I learned the importance of believing in myself and expressing my ideas. I realized that having confidence in yourself is key to growing as a person.
We also noticed that many people have great ideas but lack the financial support to make them happen. In response, our group decided to be a positive force for change in our school, offering support to those with creative ideas. This journey taught us not just how to work together and solve problems but also that making a positive impact starts with confidence and a willingness to help others pursue their creative dreams.
